Cut on our standard block since 1948, revised twice — once in 1971 when lapels widened, and again in 2019 when we lifted the button stance by 11mm to suit clients who spend most of the day seated rather than standing.

The shoulder carries a single layer of domette and no more. It reads as a clean line across the chest without the built-up look of a military cut, and it collapses gracefully over a shirt when the jacket is unbuttoned.

The chest is floating canvas throughout — horsehair and linen, pad-stitched by hand over roughly nine hours. Nothing is fused. The canvas learns your posture over the first year of wear and holds it thereafter.

From the cutter

If you carry a wallet in the left inside pocket, tell me at the first fitting. I cut 6mm of extra room into that facing rather than let the pocket ruin the drape.

Cloths we would suggest

Full book

Charcoal Herringbone

Glenrothie Mill, Selkirk · 11oz

The safest cloth in the book and the one we recommend for a first commission. Reads solid at three paces, textured at one.

Stone Fresco

Pellandro, Biella · 9.5oz

Open, wiry and almost porous — you can hold it to the light and see through it. Wears far cooler than the weight suggests.

Mid-Grey Flannel

Bramwell & Sons, Stroud · 14oz

Milled soft and brushed. The cloth that makes a plain grey suit interesting. Bruises if pressed hot, so we finish it under a damp cloth.
